Week of October 4 - 8

Theme: Fire Safety

Activities for the Week:
  • Learn the letter H in Handwriting.
  • Discover that when we are kind, we are acting as friends of Jesus in Religion.
  • Practice our counting by adding spots to the dalmation in Math.
  • Make "Spray Out the Fire" pictures in Art using markers and spray bottles filled with water.
  • Pretend to be firefighters in Dramatic Play.
  • Play with rescue vehicles and sand in the Sensory Table.
  • Play with Rescue Heroes in Blocks.
  • Learn about 9-1-1, Stop, Drop and Roll, and learn that a fire needs air by watching a candle demonstration during Group Time.

Week of September 27 - October 1

Theme: Apples

Activities for the Week:
  • Learn the letter E in Handwriting.
  • Make fingerprint apples in Art.
  • Learn how a plant grows in Science.
  • Make apple pattern crowns in Math.
  • Play with a castle and knights in Blocks.
  • Explore oatmeal and dried apples in the Sensory Table.
  • Listen to the story of The Good Shepherd in Religion.
  • Read some stories, play some games and taste various apples during Group Time.

Week of September 20 - 24

Theme: Fun on the Farm

Activities for the Week:
  • Learn the letter F in Handwriting.
  • Listen to the story "Who's God's Favorite?" in Religion.
  • Sort and count farm animals in Math.
  • Examine various corn products to identify similarities and differences in Science.
  • Play with wood blocks and farm animals in Blocks.
  • Pretend to visit the Farmer's Market in Dramatic Play.
  • Explore wheat and animals in the Sensory Table.
  • Listen to the story of The Little Red Hen, bake our own bread, make butter, graph favorite farm animals and vegetables and play a farm trivia game during Group Time.

Scholastic Book Fair - all week (Monday - Friday) in the Middle School Library

Week of September 13 - 17

Theme: Colors

Activities for the Week:
  • Learn the letter L in handwriting.
  • Listen to the Bible story "Jesus Blesses the Children" in Religion.
  • In Art we will paint with cars, string, toothbrushes, sponges and brushes to make a class painting.
  • We will participate in a simple color mixing experiment in Science.
  • Sort and count Skittles candies in Math.
  • Pretend to work in or visit the Preschool Paint Store in Dramatic Play.
  • Explore colorful counters hidden in rice in the Sensory Table.
  • Listen to a story about a cat that changes colors and go on a color search during Group Time.
Other Information:
Tuesday, September 14th - School Picture Day - wear your uniform. If this is not your child's day to come to school, you can bring them up to have their pictures taken. We are scheduled for pictures at 8:45am.

Wednesday, September 15th - Spirit Dress/Spirit Night - children can wear a St. Pius t-shirt and jeans or shorts to school.

Week of September 6 - 10

Theme: Shapes

Activities for the Week:
  • Practice pencil grip by completing a shape tracing worksheet in Handwriting.
  • Use construction paper shapes to make a person in Art.
  • Make shaving cream shapes in Science.
  • Search for shapes hidden in packing peanuts in the Sensory Table.
  • Pretend to be a customer or work in the Beauty Shop in Dramatic Play.
  • We will act out Bible stories in Religion.
  • During Group Time we will make shapes with our bodies, play an I Spy Shapes game and read some stories.

Friday, Sept. 10 - No School - parent/teacher conferences
